There are 40 mineral springs in Mariánské Lázně and dozens more in the surrounding area. The first spa was built here in the early 19th century. In 2021, Karlovy Vary was inscribed on the UNESCO list along with Karlovy Vary, Františkovy Lázně and 8 other Great Spa Towns of Europe.
